Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. Located off the east coast of the United States, its nearest landmass is Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, about 640 mi to the west-northwest. It is about 853 mi south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and 1,100 mi northeast of Miami, Florida. Its capital city is Hamilton.Bermuda was discovered in 1505 by Spanish navigator Juan de Bermúdez after whom the islands are named, who claimed it for the Spanish
Empire. Unoccupied, (Bermúdez claimed to have left the island inhabited only by pigs), the islands were settled by Britain in 1609, making it the oldest and most populous remaining British overseas territory. Its first capital, St George's, was established in 1612 and is the oldest continuously inhabited British town in the Americas.Bermuda is the only vacation spot that I have gone out of the country to travel to. I was a bit scared when learning of our vacationing to these islands because I was smart enough to brush up on the history of Bermuda and the Bermuda Triangle. I found out that many plains, boats, and helicopters vanished while moving through the Bermuda triangle to Bermuda. Already worried about going to Bermuda, my family and I were faced with dilemma. My grandfather did not have the right paperwork in order to travel out of the country, before passports were needed. Long story short we finally got the paperwork needed and against all odds made it to Bermuda. While in Bermuda I took part in their annual kite day festival that takes place on Good Friday. On this day everyone takes part in flying a kite on the beach. I also saw something I have never seen before while visiting Bermuda, I saw two full size Parrot fish not even one yard off the beach. Bermuda was a great vacation once we finally got there if given the chance I would definitely go back.
